The game takes around 20 min to complete.
For the activity, LA will prepare several sets of “Karuta” using the handout on the right.
The rule of the “Karuta” game is as follows:
Students will be divided into groups, and they will compete within the group. The cards should be spread face up on a flat surface.
The LA, who is the “reader,” will randomly show Japanese verbs in their dictionary form without reading it aloud (using PPT would be helpful).
Students are expected to race each other to find the card with the corresponding verbs in their ます-form, and then to touch/grab/claim the correct card. The process will be repeated until no cards remain. Students with the most cards will be the winner.
